Baltimore -- Lafayette College scored two goals in the second overtime on Tuesday night, as the Leopards went on to defeat the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team 2-0 in the Patriot League Championships Semifinals.
The Greyhounds (7-3-8 overall, 6-1-2 Patriot League) held the momentum in the first half, as they maintained the majority of the possession, and also held the Leopards (9-5-6 overall, 4-2-3 Patriot League) to without a shot in the first half. Despite leading shots 6-0 in the first half, Loyola could not find the back of the net, as the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
Out of halftime, the Leopards found some momentum, as they had four shots on target with in the first twenty minutes of the half, with
Dylan Van der Walt saving three of them, and
Tyler Tucker came up big with a goal line clearance, to maintain the scoreless battle. Neither team found much momentum to close out the second half, has teams ended regular time tied, 0-0.
After a scoreless first overtime that saw no shots by either team, Lafayette broke through in the 107th minute, as a cross from Connor Dawson found Roy Biegon, whose header took a deflection before finding the back of the net. The Leopards added a second goal two minutes later, as the Greyhounds looked for the late equalizer, the Leopards counter-attacked to close out the 2-0 win.
Dylan Van der Walt had a game-high five saves on the night for the Greyhounds.
