Women's Lacrosse Begins 2023 Season on Saturday as they Host Johns Hopkins

The Matchup
- The Loyola women's lacrosse begins its 2023 campaign with a matchup with Charles Street rival Johns Hopkins on Saturday, February 18. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's teams opening at 12 noon and the women's teams beginning at 3 p.m. 
- The Greyhounds have won their last two matchups against the Blue Jays. Last season, the Greyhounds outscored Johns Hopkins, 9-1, in the second half to go on for a 14-5 win at the Blue Jays' Homewood Field.. 
- The Blue Jays come into the matchup with an 1-0 record this, having beaent Albany, 17-10, in their season opener at home.

- Saturday will mark the 14th season the Greyhounds will play at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds hold an impressive 94-23 (.803) record all-time at the stadium.
- The Greyhounds return seven of their top 10 scorers from the 2022 season, led by four players who scored 25 or more goals: Jillian Wilson (48), Sydni Black (39), Georgia Latch (38), and Chase Boyle (25). 
- Latch also finished second on the team in 2022 with 38 assists, good for second most by a freshman in program history. 
- Jen Adams will begin her 15th year as the head coach of the Greyhounds on Saturday. Assistant Coach Dana Dobbie will also open her 15th season, while assistant coach Caroline Hager starts her 13th season with the Greyhounds. Four-time All-American Livy Rosenzweig joins the coaching staff as an volunteer assistant coach.

- The Greyhounds will travel to face Towson on February 22 at 4:00 PM. 

Series History
- Loyola leads 16-5 in a series that dates back to 1975.
- The Greyhounds have opened the season with a matchup against the Blue Jays in five of the last six seasons. 
- After a 30-year hiatus of both teams facing each other from 1982-2012, the teams have played in 10 of the last 11 seasons. 
- Since 2012, the series is an even with each program winning five times.

Scouting Johns Hopkins
- The Blue Jays come into the matchup having won their season opener against Albany, 17-10. 
- Georgie Gorelick led the Blue Jays with 5 goals, while Ava Angello added 3. Six other players scored in the game, with three of them scoring twice each. 
- Maeve Barker led the team with 5 assists, and five other players added an assist each. 
- The Blue Jays had two goalies play in net with both goalie tallying an 33.3% save percentage. Maggie Tydings got the win in goal, as she tallied 3 saves on 12 shots faced. 
- The Blue Jays are coming off of a 2022 season where they finished 10-9 and lost to #13 Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. 
- They were picked to finish in fifth place in the B1G Preseason Poll. 

Big Shoes to Fill
- The Greyhounds will have big shoes to fill this season, as Livy Rosenzweig wrapped up her illustrious playing career in 2022. 
- Rosenzweig finished as the Loyola career leader in points and assists, among several single season records. She also finished her career with the third-most assists and 4th most points in NCAA history. 
- The Greyhounds will also have to replace the goal contributions from Sam Fiedler and Ellie Kluegel. Fiedler sits at ninth all-time in Loyola in goals, while Kluegel is at 11th all-time. 
- Loyola also has a new face in goal, as they said goodbye to All-American Kaitlyn Larsson after last season. Larsson finished her career in the top-10 in career saves for the Greyhounds.
