BALTIMORE – Monmouth University women's tennis used an early advantage from the doubles point to scratch out a 4-3 victory over Loyola University Maryland on Saturday evening after the teams split the six singles matches evenly.
Lauren Manwiller and
Christine Richiez posted a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles for the Greyhounds after
Olivia Tracey and
Jessica Bodewes were edged, 6-4, at No. 1. The Hawks, however, took the point as Hana McKinney and Zoe Klapman were 7-5 winners against Evi Shivkumar and
Anna Rico at No. 3.
Tracey eanred a No. 1 singles win with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Ann Spurka to even the match score at 1-1. Monmouth took a 3-1 advantage, however, as Klapman beat
Addison Kemerer, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Jordyn Pax topped
Madison Metzdorf by the same score.
Loyola came back within a point in the team race as
Christine Richiez knocked off Lana Brezanin, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4 singles, but Monmouth secured the win when McKinney got past Manwiller at No. 2 in a supertiebreaker third, 6-7 (1), 6-3, (10-8). Bodewes also had a win for the Greyhounds at No. 3, 3-6, 6-4, (13-11).
