CHESTNUT HILL, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland women's tennis came back from an early deficit to post a 4-3 win on Friday afternoon at Chestnut Hill College, but the men's team lost to the Griffins, 5-2.
Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead on the women's side after winning the doubles point behind victories at No. 1 and 3.
Carlota Garcia and Romi Meirovich defeated
Olivia Tracey and
Jessica Bodewes, 6-4, in the top spot, and Claudia Rasillia and Annika Wise were winners by the same score over
Taylor Kuncl and
Madison Metzdorf at No. 3.
Lauren Manwiller and
Christine Richiez posted a 6-0 victory for the Greyhounds at No. 2 doubles against Alison Isaac and Nele Haag.
Loyola quickly made its comeback in singles play as Tracey scored a 6-1, 6-1 win against Isaac at No.1, and Manwiller beat Garcia, 7-6 (5), 6-0.
Bodewes downed Haag, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3, and then Richiez clinched the team win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 against Meirovich.
Wise beat Metzdorf, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5, and Rasillia outlasted
Lauren Williamson, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2), at No. 6.
In the men's match,
Nick Haggar and
Nick Lawliss picked up a victory 6-2 win over Marcello Bozzone and Antonio Franquis at No. 3, but the Griffins won the other two contests. Noah Cutting and Tom Pitchley beat
Matt Cardano and
George Cavo, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles, and Tiago Lima and Joao Sousa were 6-4 winners against
Oliver Davey and
Ryan Boland at No. 2.
Cardano took a super-tiebreaker third for a 7-6 (4), 5-7, (10-3) win over Cutting at No. 1 singles, and
Trevor Girandola beat Toby Michel, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6, but Chestnut Hill won the middle four matches to take the team win.
Pitchley was a 7-5, 6-7 (5), (10-4) win over Cavo at No. 2, while Lima beat Davey, 6-3, 7-5.
Sousa defeated Lawliss, 1-6, 6-2, (10-6) at No. 4, and Antonio Franquis beat
Dylan Koziol, 6-2, 6-4.
