Towson, Md. -- The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team scored the first eight goals of the game to jump out to an early lead, and it did not look back on Wednesday evening.
Sydni Black led the way for the Greyhounds, thanks to a career-high seven points in the Greyhounds 16-5 win.
Six different Greyhounds scored in the big first half for the Greyhounds, led by
Meg Hillman with four goals and Black with three, as the Greyhounds led 11-3 at the half.
Georgia Latch led the team with three assists in the first half, while
Emily Wills added two of her own.
The Greyhounds (2-0 overall) picked up where they left off early in the second half, as Black scored her fourth goal of the day with 13:51 left in the third quarter to take an 12-3 lead. She continued her big day, as she found Latch for the goal with 5:58 left in the third quarter. Wills assisted
Regan Kielmeyer for her first goal of the season, as recorded her second-straight three-assist game.
Loyola's defense showed out on Wednesday evening, with the Greyhounds holding the Tigers scoreless during the first and third quarters. The Tigers recorded a combined five shots during those two quarters, as the Greyhounds defense did not make it easy.
Black had a game-high five goals to go along with two assists in the game. Hillman scored a career-best four goals, while Wills and Latch both had three assists and a goal.
Jillian Wilson added a goal and a assist, while
Chase Boyle,
Anna Ruby, Kielmeyer, and
Sarah Engle all had one goal each.
The Greyhounds maximized on their possession advantage, as they lead 16-8 in draw controls. Wilson had a game-high 10 draw controls, while Black had four, and
Katie Detwiler added two.
Lauren Spence recorded a career-high 12 saves in her second career start in goal for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds will be back in action next Wednesday as they host Penn at Ridley Athletic Complex at 4:00 PM
