WEST POINT, N.Y. –
Deon Perry and
Jaylin Andrews each scored 17 points for visiting Loyola University Maryland, but Army West Point scored the game's final seven points in a 76-70 win on Wednesday night in Patriot League action.
Perry hit a jumper with 2:19 remaining in regulation to stake the Greyhounds to a 70-69 lead, but it was the last basket the Greyhounds would score as Chris Mann converted a layup and free throw just over a minute later to put the Black Knights up for good.
Mann's traditional 3-poiont play at 1:07 was the first of two for Army West Point as Ethan Roberts drove the left side, scored and was fouled, making the shot at the charity stripe with 12 ticks left.
Earlier in the second half, it was a Roberts layup at 15:41 that pushed the Black Knights up by seven, 45-38, but Loyola scored 12 of the next 14 points to lead 50-57 after Perry hit a three, drew contact and made the free throw for a four-point play.
Perry was 4 of 7 from 3-point range for his fourth straight game with four baskets from behind the arc. He is 18 of 28 (.642) from deep in Loyola's last five outings.
Loyola later extended the advantage to six, 59-53, on an
Alonso Faure free throw at 9:08. The lead for the Greyhounds was 64-60 after an Andrews basket with 6:12 left, but Mann scored at 4:02, and the Black Knights led 65-64.
Mann scored his sixth consecutive point on a basket 30 seconds later, pushing the Black Knights up by three, but Perry banked in a three from the top of the perimeter with 3:11 left in regulation, and it was tied at 67-67.
In addition to the combined 34 points by Andrews and Perry,
Kenneth Jones added 13, while Faure and
Chris Kuzemka each had seven for Loyola. Faure grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, and Andrews had seven.
Loyola stays on the road for its next game, a Saturday, February 11, affair at Lehigh University.
