Gainesville, FL -- Florida University scored the final five goals in the fourth quarter, as the 10th-ranked Gators defeated the seventh-ranked Greyhounds, 14-11 on Saturday in non-conference action.
Jillian Wilson became just the fourth Greyhound to eclipse the 300 career draw controls mark.
Georgia Latch scored early in the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead for the Greyhounds. They did not trail for the remainder of the first half, as
Sydni Black scored a goal to right before half to give the Greyhounds an 7-5 halftime lead.
Both teams traded goals throughout the third quarter, as a Gators goal with 2:11 remaining in the third drew the Gators to within one goal.
Emily Wills scored off of an assist from
Anna Ruby with 10:25 left in the fourth quarter, but that is the last goal the Greyhounds would score, as the Gators scored the last five goals for the win.
Meg Hillman had a hat-trick on the day, while
Chase Boyle had two goals.
Sydni Black and
Georgia Latch both had two goals and an assist.
Emily Wills had a goal and three assists.
Lauren Spence made six saves on the afternoon, to go along with three ground balls for Loyola (5-1 overall).
Paisley Eagan scored for the Gators with 7:04 remaining in the first quarter as they took an 3-2 lead.
Georgia Latch responded with :41 seconds left in the quarter, as the Greyhounds were tied 3-3 at halftime. Latch started the second quarter fast, scoring :33 seconds into the quarter. After a pair of goals from the Gators,
Emily Wills found
Sydni Black for a goal with 2:21 left in the second quarter, to give the Greyhounds an 7-5 lead.
Florida (4-2 overall) scored first in the second half to cut their deficit down to a goal. Black found Hillman for a goal with 9:55 left in the quarter to retake a two-goal lead.
The Gators, however, responded quickly, scoring :49 seconds later. Hillman added another goal in the quarter, but the Gators answered late in the quarter as the Greyhounds led 9-8 heading into the fourth.
The Greyhounds offense started fast in the fourth, as Boyle scored off an assist from Wills to make it 10-8 with 13:01 remaining.
After a Gators goal, Wills scored off of an
Anna Ruby assist to make it an 11-9 Greyhounds lead with 10:25 remaining. The Gators responded by scoring five straight goals to close out the visiting Greyhounds.
The Greyhounds maintained the advantage in possession, as the Greyhounds won the draw control battle 20-9.
Jillian Wilson had 14 draw controls on the day.
The Greyhounds also out-shot the Gators 26-23. Sarah Reznick had 11 saves on the day for the Gators.
The Greyhounds will be back at home on Wednesday, when they host No. 2 Syracuse at 6:00 PM.
