No. 9 Women's Lacrosse Opens Patriot League Play with 16-6 Win Over Lehigh

Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team opened up conference play on Saturday afternoon, as they hosted Lehigh University, and the Greyhounds got out to a fast start, scoring the first seven goals, en route to a 16-6 win at home. 

Four different Greyhounds scored in the first half, led by Jillian Wilson who had a first-half hat trick. Meg Hillman and Sydni Black both had two goals in the half, to go along with a goal from Anna Ruby. The Greyhounds held the Mountain Hawks to just six shots in the first half, as they took a 8-1 halftime lead. 

Black scored her third goal of the game early in the second half, as she managed to get past her defender and whip one in for a score. The Greyhounds continued their momentum in the third quarter, as Chase Boyle scored a pair of goals to give the Greyhounds a commanding 11-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Greyhounds' defense gave the Mountain Hawks issues all game long, holding them to just a 70 percent clearing percentage on the game. Loyola recorded a season-high 9 caused turnovers as Wilson and Katie Detwiler led the team with two each. The Greyhounds also held the Mountain Hawks scoreless in the first quarter, and allowed a season-low one goal in the first half. Lauren Spence had 4 saves on the afternoon. 

WIlson led the team with five points on the afternoon, coming from four goals and an assist. Chase Boyle added a pair of goals and assists for a four-point afternoon. Black scored a hat-trick, while Georgia Latch recorded three assists. Alana Wray scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, while Sofia D'Angelo scored her first career goal in the fourth. Gabby Stapleton scored her first goal of the season, while Izzy D'Antonio recorded her first assist of the season. 

The Greyhounds first-ranked draw control unit showed out again, as the Greyhounds controlled the possession and led in draw controls 19-6. Wilson had 9 draw controls, while Detwiler and Boyle had five and four draw controls respectively. 

The Mountain Hawks (6-2 overall) were led by Emma Eberhardt who had a hat-trick. Hayley Hunt recorded nine saves in goal on the afternoon. 

The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play next Saturday, as they will travel to face Boston  on March 25 at 12:00 PM.
