Rowing Opens Spring Slate At Jesuit Invitational In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA – Loyola University Maryland men's and women's rowing started its spring schedule on Saturday, competing on the Schuylkill River at the 2023 Jesuit Invitational.
 
The Greyhounds raced against boats from fellow Jesuit schools Fairfield, Holy Cross, Fordham and St. Joseph's.
 
The women's second varsity four – Cassidy Garcia, Emily Pedersen, Anna Schiller, Valentina Masi and coxswain Bella Schafer – finished second in 10:12.1, and the men's second varsity eight coxed by Kat An with Julius Boucke, Rhys organ, Devon Sangiorgio, Jeremiah James, Christopher Mueller, Matteo Mood, Matt Smith and Ben Sala were second in their final with a time of 6:39.2.
 
Loyola's women's varsity four – Holly Hanscom, Lindsey Thompson, Kristine Jones, Grace Gola and coxswain Callista Van Syckel – claimed second in the petite final with a time of 8:34.0, and the varsity eight was second in its petite final, too. Coxswain Delaney Gibbons and the boat of Emma McCann, Megan Gallucci, Olivia Welch, Lindsey Bonavita, Grace Prince, Grace Dwan, Kylie Doyle and Daniella Niedermeyer crossed the finish line in 7:09.8.
 
Meilyn Frank coxed the women's second varsity eight to a second-place finish in the petite final as Anna Kelley, Maura Budd, Adriana Leszynski, Juliana Merlino, Samantha Walsh, Erin Megill, Beata Turnquish and Ivy Gallagher had a time of 7:52.5.
 
The Greyhounds' men's varsity four and varsity eight both took third in their finals. The four with Perry Schutt, Salvri Manalansan, Jacob Cordes, Jack Quinones and coxswain Katie Blanch finished in 8:35.7. Loyola's eight coxed by Joseph Sigmund with Eoin McDonough, David Schechter, Joseph Arvelo, Frederich Lightner, Max Greer, Logan Lyle, Guillermo Diaz and Joshua Rafferty finished in 6:22.8.
 
Loyola will be back in action on Saturday, April 1, when it hosts several teams at the Baltimore Boat House. The women will race against Lehigh, while the men will take on Delaware, La Salle and the Potomac Boat Club.
