Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team hosted American University on Wednesday evening. The Greyhounds offense got going early and often, as they won big over the Eagles, 19-7.
The Greyhounds (8-2 overall) offense started the game on fire in the first quarter, as they scored a season-high eight goals in the first quarter. Five different players scored in the quarter, led by
Sydni Black who had a hat-trick within the first 5:03 of the game.
Chase Boyle had two goals in the first quarter, with
Emily Wills,
Meg Hillman and
Jillian Wilson all adding goals in the first quarter.
The Greyhounds offense continued to click in the second quarter, scoring seven goals in the quarter.
Jillian Wilson led the way for the Greyhounds in the second quarter, scoring four goals in the quarter, tying a career-high with five goals at halftime. The Greyhounds led 15-5 at halftime. Boyle had three goals and one assist, Black a hat-trick, Wills had one goal and three assists, and Latch had one goal and four assists in the first half.
In the second half, the Greyhounds defense stifled the Eagles offense, limiting them to just two goals and eight shots in the second half. The Greyhounds offense slowed their pace in the second half, scoring four goals on 15 shots in the second half.
Wilson finished with a career-high six goals, while Boyle finished with a career-high five goals on the night. Alana Wray,
Anna Ruby, and
Meg Hillman all added goals for the Greyhounds.
Lauren Spence had four saves on the game, while
Makenzie Butler also had a save in the fourth quarter.
The Greyhounds controlled the possession in the game, winning the draw control battle 20-9 on the night.
Jillian Wilson led the way with 13 draw controls on the night.
Katie Detwiler and
Sydni Black both had three draw controls of their own.
The Eagles (6-4 overall) were led by Kellie Linehan and Annabelle Jackson with two goals each. Lexi Rakis tallied 9 saves on the night.
The Greyhounds will home on Saturday, as they host Holy Cross in game one of the doubleheader at 12:00 PM.
