Baltimore, MD -- The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team used a strong first half on Wednesday evening to lead them past the Georgetown Hoyas, as the Greyhounds won 15-10.
The Hoyas (3-4 overall) kept it close in the first quarter, as teams were tied 3-3 with 3:42 remaining in the first quarter. Goals from
Emily Wills and
Georgia Latch scored goals in the final mintue, as the Greyhounds took a 5-3 lead after the first. Latch and Wills both had two goals each in the first quarter.
After the Hoyas scored the first goal in the second quarter, the Greyhounds responded with three unanswered goals, as they took a 8-4 lead with 7:25 remaining in the first half. After another Hoyas goal,
Meg Hillman scored for the Greyhounds, as Wills followed her up shortly after for a first-half hat-trick with 3:52 left in the half. The Hoyas added another goal with 1:25 left, as the Greyhounds led 10-6 heading into halftime.
The Greyhounds (5-0 overall) did not waste much time in the third quarter adding to their lead, as
Chase Boyle scored on a no-look behind the back goal, thanks to an assist from
Sydni Black.
Following Boyle's goal, the Hoyas held the Greyhounds scoreless over the next 13-minutes of game-time and scored two goal sto cut the Greyhounds lead to three goals. With :24 seconds left in the third quarter, Anny Ruby found
Sydni Black for the goal on the player-up opportunity, as the Greyhounds led 12-8 heading into the fourth.
After an early Hoya goal in the fourth quarter,
Jillian Wilson scored her second goal of the night, thanks to another Latch assist. Just over a minute later, Hillman found Latch for her third goal of the game to go up 14-9 on the night. With 6:46 remaining, Wilson closed out the game with her third goal of the game, thanks to Latch's third assist of the game, as the Greyhounds went on to win 15-10.
Jillian Wilson,
Emily Wills, and
Georgia Latch all had hat-tricks in the game, as Wilson and Wills added an assist. Latch added three-assists on the night, for her second straight three-goal and three-assist game.
Chase Boyle added two goals, as
Meg Hillman added two goals to go along with two assists.
Sydni Black added a goal and an assist on the night.
The Greyhounds controlled the possession on the night, as they led in draw controls 22-7 on the night. Wilson had a game-high 12 draw controls, while
Sydni Black had 6 draw contols of her own.
Katie Detwiler added three draw controls, while Cydney List recorded her first-career draw control.
Lauren Spence recorded six saves on the night, and allowed just 10 goals on 24 shots faced on the night. She also added a ground ball.
The Greyhounds now move to 3-0 at home on the season, and extend their current home win streak to 23-games. The Greyhounds will be back in action on Saturday, as they travel to face No. 10 Florida in a top-ten matchup.
