TOWSON, Md. – Towson University won the last three singles matches to finish on Thursday, and the Tigers squeezed out a 4-3 win over visiting Loyola University Maryland.
Loyola led 2-0 after winning the doubles point and picking up one with a default to
Lauren Williamson at No. 6 singles.
The Tigers got back within a point after Sania Suchinsky got past
Taylor Kuncl, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, but
Madison Metzdorf gave the Greyhounds a 3-1 advantage with a 6-1. 1-6, 6-3 victory at No. 5 against Erin Gray.
Olivia Rothfield outlasted
Christine Richiez, 5-7, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2, and Lea Kosanovic beat
Katie Moorhead, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 3. Sarah Pospischill then delivered the winning point with a three-set win over
Lauren Manwiller at No. 1, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles, Manwiller and Richiez beat Kosanovic and Rothfield, 6-3, at No. 1, and
Olivia Tracey and
Liza Tankimovich topped Pospischill and Suchinsky, 6-4. Metzdorf and Kuncl then won by default at No. 3.
