BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland women's tennis team captured a 4-0 win over visiting Lafayette College on Saturday evening, but the Leopards' men's team defeated the Greyhounds by the same score.
The matches were delayed throughout the day by storms in the Baltimore area, but they were concluded under the lights at the McClure Tennis Center.
Loyola picked up the doubles point in women's play as
Lauren Manwiller and
Christine Richiez paired for a 6-0 sweep of Carmen Merkel and Melanie Sparhawk at No 2, and
Olivia Tracey and
Liza Tankimovich downed Olivia Boeckman and Halie Denardo, 6-2, at No. 3. Lafayette's Eleanore Campbell and Alyssa Perdomo beat
Taylor Kuncl and
Emi Shivkumar, 6-1, at No. 1.
Richiez registered a 6-0, 6-1 win against Sparhawk at No. 3 singles, and Tracey beat Merkel, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1. Manwiller clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Boeckman at No. 2.
In the men's match, Brady Wisdom and Nash Lovallo beat Loyola's
Matt Cardano and
Jorge Quintana, 6-1, at No. 3, and Jake Magnusson and Arman Ganchi outlasted
Nick Haggar and
Nick Lawliss, 7-6 (5) at No. 1 for the point.
The Leopards then scored three straight-set wins in singles to claim the match. Ganchi beat
Oliver Davey, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2, and Nick McKenzie was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over
George Cavo at No. 3. Wisdon finished with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against
Ryan Boland at No. 4.
