EMMITSBURG, Md. – Loyola University Maryland men's tennis split three singles matches with Mount St. Mary's University on Tuesday afternoon, but the Mountaineers took the doubles point for a 4-3 win over the Greyhounds.
Loyola's women fell to Mount St. Mary's, 5-2.
Matt Cardano took a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 1 singles, and
Ryan Boland outlasted Luke Pappayoanou, 4-6, 6-4, (10-6), at No. 4.
George Cavo had the other downed Andrew Allen, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 6.
Filippos Zachiotis topped
Oliver Davey, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2, and Christos Dagkis was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over
Nick Lawliss at No. 3. Jarrett Karnibad defeated
Harry Zeiders, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5.
In doubles, Karnibad and Zachiotis beat Lawliss and Cavo, 6-3, at No. 1, and Dagkis paired with Marcel Cronin for a 7-5 win over Zeiders and Davey at No. 2. Giovanni Abriola and Oscar Castro topped Cardano and
Jorge Quintana for a 6-3 win.
On the women's side,
Katie Moorhead shutout Ryan McCarthy, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5, and
Lauren Williamson defeated Stephanie Huseby, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6.
Victoria Papadopoulo was a 6-3, 6-1 winner against
Olivia Tracey at No. 1, and Amber Policare edged
Lauren Manwiller, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 2. Adriana Barney used a tiebreaker to top
Christine Richiez, 7-6 (3), 6-2, at No. 3, and Ana Alvarez-Storni beat
Madison Metzdorf, 6-3, 7-5.
Policare and Bella Pescatore beat
Emi Shivkumar and
Taylor Kuncl, 6-3, at No. 1, and McCarthy and Papadopoulo topped Tracey and Metzdorf, 6-3, at No. 3. Richiez and Manwiller were 6-3 winners for the Greyhounds at No. 2 against Alvarez-Storni and Barney.
