Baltimore, MD -- After a Army West Point goal at the 6:17 mark in the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3, the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team scored 10 straight goals over the next 16:06 of game time to pull away. Due to inclement weather, the game was called with 8:29 remaining, as the Greyhounds won 19-5.
The Greyhounds (12-2 overall) offense continued to click on all cylinders in the first quarter, as they scored seven goals in the quarter. After the Black Knights tied the game at 3-3, the Greyhounds scored four straight goals in the first quarter to pull ahead 7-3 at the end of the first.
Meg Hillman recorded a hat-trick in the first quarter, as
Georgia Latch,
Chase Boyle, Jillian WIlson and
Anna Ruby all had goals in the quarter. Latch and Wilson both added two assists in the quarter to go with their goal.
The Greyhounds offense continued their success in the second quarter, as they quickly jumped out to a 13-3 lead with 9:36 remaining in the half. Wilson closed off the half with a goal with seven seconds remaining, as the Greyhounds led 15-4 at halftime.
Chase Boyle continued her hot streak as of late, as she had four goals in the first half. Wilson had a hat-trick at halftime, as Latch had two goals at half.
Sydni Black added four assists in the first half.
In the third quarter, the Greyhounds defense stifled the Black Knights attack, as they held them scoreless in the third quarter and to just five shots. The Greyhounds added four more goals in the fourth quarter, before the game was called early with 8:29 remaining in the fourth quarter due to lightning. The Greyhounds defeated the Black Knights 19-5 in the pivotal Patriot League matchup.
Meg Hillman scored a career-high five goals on the afternoon.
Chase Boyle had another five point day, as she scored four goals to go along with an assist.
Jillian Wilson had a hat-trick to go along with two assists, while
Sydni Black and
Georgia Latch both had two goals and four assists each.
The Greyhounds controlled the possession in the game, as they led the draw control battle 19-7.
Jillian Wilson tied a career-high with 14 draw controls in the game.
Katie Detwiler and
Sydni Black both had two draw controls of their own.
The Black Knights (12-2 overall) were led by Kathleen Sullivan and Julia Franzoni with two goals each. Brigid Duffy, who leads the Patriot League in goals, was held without a goal for the first time this season.
The Greyhounds will be back in Patriot League action on Wednesday, as they travel to face Buckell at 5:00 pm.
