Caden Stafford scored his first goal of the season on Monday afternoon, to give Loyola University Maryland an 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Rams scored an equalizer ten minutes later, as they battled to a 1-1 draw against Fordham.
In the first half, the Greyhounds (0-1-4 overall) maintained the majority of the possession, but despite this, they only managed four shots in the half, with all four coming on target. Despite trailing in possession, the Rams (2-0-3 overall) had success on the counter attack, as they tallied 10 shots in the first half, with only two coming on goal, as teams were tied 0-0 at halftime.
Early in the second half,
Curtis Wagner played a long ball behind the defense, where
Caden Stafford was able to chase down the ball before heading it over the goalkeeper for his first goal of the season.
After the go ahead goal, it did not take long for the Rams to tie things up, as Nathan Simes was able to chase down the loose ball after a save and score on the rebound.
Over the next ten minutes, the Greyhounds offense began to build momentum, as they had three shots, including two on goal, but they could not find the go ahead goal, as the game was called in the 71st minute due to weather in the area, as teams battled to a 1-1 draw.
Despite trailing in shots 15-8, the Greyhounds led the Rams in shots on goal 7-6.
Dylan Van der Walt tallied a season-high with five saves on the afternoon.
The Greyhounds will begin conference play on Saturday, as they will host the Navy Midshipmen at 5:00 pm.
