Men’s Soccer Remains Undefeated In Conference With Shutout Of Army West Point

BALTIMORE – Danilo Seglio and Jordy Luchies scored in each half for Loyola University Maryland men's soccer, and the Greyhounds improved to 3-0-1 in Patriot League play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Army West Point on Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex.

Seglio put the Greyhounds in front with a goal off a free kick in the 26th minute. He struck the ball from yards outside the box and drilled a curling shot off the cross bar. It bounced down and over the line for his second goal of the season.

His goal was part of a first half that saw both teams take 10 shots, but the Greyhounds had a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Army West Point pressed to open the second half, but the Black Knights drew five offsides flags and did not get off a shot after halftime.

The game remained 1-0 until late in the second half.

Jake Sweeney had a one-on-one against the Army West Point goalkeeper. Sweeney drew a foul and ensuing penalty kick.

Luchies converted the penalty to put the Greyhounds in front, 2-0.

Dylan van der Walt and the Loyola defense recorded their third clean sheet of the season, all of which have come in the last four matches.

Loyola steps out of conference play on Wednesday, October 4, for a 6 p.m. match at West Virginia University. The Mountaineers are currently ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll.
