Boston – The Loyola Univesity Maryland women's basketball team outscored Boston University 33-23 in the second half, but their fourth quarter rally fell short on Saturday afternoon.
Kelly Ratigan knocked down a turnaround jumper with 7:53 remaining in the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds trimmed their deficit down to six points. After a Terriers basket, Ratigan knocked down her second three-pointer of the game, to get the Greyhounds (6-9 overall, 1-3 Patriot League) to within five points.
The Terriers (11-4 overall, 3-1 Patriot League) responded with a 8-3 run over the next three minutes of game time to pull away from visiting Loyola, as the Terriers went on to win 55-48.
After opening the second half with a pair of baskets, the Greyhounds and Terriers traded baskets down the middle of the third quarter. Loyola's offense came alive to go on a 12-2 run, led by
Cristina Garcia, to cut their deficit down to eight points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Greyhounds had all nine players that played score during the game, led by
Kelly Ratigan with 8 points.
Lily Bottomley had a career-high 7 points on the night.
Cristina Garcia also added 7 points on the night.
Lex Therien added 10 rebounds, while Laura Salmeron had a career high 6 assists.
Boston was led by Anastasiia Semenova, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds on the night.
The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play on Wednesday, when they travel to face off against American.
