The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will continue conference play on Saturday afternoon as Loyola will host the Colgate Raiders in a Patriot League matchup.
  • This will be the 13th matchup between the two programs, with the Greyhounds holding a 6-3-3 edge in the series. Over their last five matchups, the Greyhounds have gone 3-0-2, including a 2-0 win last season.

Quick Hits
  • The Greyhounds started Patriot League play as they entered the season as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League home openers (excluding the 2020 season).
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24.
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 74-67-37 (48-26-15) during his tenure.

Last Patriot League Game
  • After a tight first half, Caden Stafford scored the opening goal of the game in the first half, as he headed in a cross from Chris Ogor, to the near post for the goal.
  • In the second half, Loyola possessed the majority of the possession as they outshot the Midshipmen in the half.
  • Stafford added his second goal of the game in the 73rd minute, as his right footed shot from outside the box found its way to the back of the net.
  • Navy would responded with a goal of their own just 1:16 later.
  • The Midshipmen followed up their opening goal with a pair of goals over the next seven minutes, as they took a 3-2 lead in the 82nd minute.
  • Despite a few looks at goal late, Loyola could not overcome the Navy rally.

Season at A Glance
Scouting Colgate
  • The Raiders come into the matchup with a 4-3-3 (2-0-2) record on the season, and are coming off of a 1-0 win over Holy Cross last Saturday.
  • In Patriot League play, they also have a 2-1 win over Lafayette, while drawing with American (1-1) and Navy (2-2).
  • The Raiders are led by Blake Pipkin, who has three goals and two assists on the season. Aidan Wright has a team-high three goals on the season, while three other Raiders each have two goals each.
  • In goal, Oliver Townend has started in 8 games, earning a .719 save percentage, 23 saves, and a 1.13 goals against average. Eric Widrick has started in two goames, posting a .714 save percentage, 10 saves, and a 2.00 goals against average.
  • The Raiders junior midfielder, Cason Stafford, is brothers with Loyola's forward, Caden Stafford. This will be the first time that the brothers will face off, as Caden missed the matchup last season due to injury.
  • Colgate is currently tied with Bucknell at the top of the Patriot League standings with 8 points through four games.

Quick Notes
  • The Greyhounds are 47-14-13 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season.
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 16-1-2 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 15-1 when leading at halftime and 15-4-13 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021.
  • Dylan Van der Walt recorded a career-best seven saves against Hofstra.

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 13-19-16 in non-conference play.
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League.
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season.

Offensive Momentum
  • After a slow start to the season offensively, the Greyhounds have began to find success on the offensive end over the past few games.
  • Over their past five games, the Greyhounds have scored two goals in three of those games.
  • Caden Stafford has come up big for Loyola, recording three goals and two assists during the stretch, with two goals coming against Navy, and two assists coming against Holy Cross.
  • Outside of Stafford, it has been a balanced effort, with three other goal scorers during that period, as well as three different players recording an assist.
  • In three of the last five games, the Greyhounds have also out shot their opponents, out shooting their opponent 50-41 over the last four games.
  • Last season, the Greyhounds ranked third in the Patriot League in shots per game, while this season they rank sixth.
