Baltimore --
Oscar Halls scored his first career goal for the Loyola University Maryland men's soccer team, as the Greyhounds defeated visiting Colgate University 2-1, in a Patriot League matchup.
Jake Sweeney opened up the scoring for the second straight game, as Sweeney scored in just the third minute, as
Charlie Herley's ball into the box found Sweeney, as he tapped in the ball to give the Greyhounds (3-6-3 overall, 2-2-1 Patriot League) the early lead.
The rest of the first half was played in the midfield, as both teams battled for possession, but neither offense could find a good chance the remainder of the half thanks to strong defensive play, as Loyola went into halftime with the 1-0 lead.
The Raiders (4-4-3 overall, 2-1-2 Patriot League) scored the equalizer just seven minutes into the half, as Colgate's Blake Pipkin scored the tying goal.
After Loyola drew a corner kick in the 65th minute,
Sean McEvoy's ball found
Oscar Halls at the far post, as Halls headed in the ball, as Loyola retook the lead.
Over the final 25 minutes of game time, the Greyhounds defense was lockdown, as they did not allow a shot on goal over the remainder of the game, as the defense closed out the Raiders and held on to the 2-1 win.
Sweeney scored his second goal of the season, while Halls scored his first career goal and game winning goal.
Chris Ogor,
Charlie Herley, and
Sean McEvoy picked up assists in the win.
Dylan Van der Walt had a quiet day in goal, recording just one save in the win.
Loyola will close out non-conference play on Tuesday when they travel to play Syracuse at 7:00 PM.
