PHILADELPHIA – The Loyola University Maryland rowing team and a group of its alumni competed on Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill with the Greyhounds'  men's varsity four leading the way with a fourth-place finish.
 
The group of Brendan Shaw, Sam Hoerning, Pete Bohacek, Chris Engelbert and coxswain Joey Sigmund turned in a fourth-place time of 12:59.211 to finish behind Penn, the Potomac Boat Club and Columbia in an event that featured 33 boats.
 
That Greyhounds contingent had a time that was more than two seconds better than fifth-place Delaware in the event.
 
Loyola's women's varsity eight also had a top-10 finish. Katherine Convery, Mikayla Smith, Josephine Lightner, Olivia Welch, Beata Turnquist, Bella Taranto, Kylie Doyle, Lindsey Bonavita and coxswain Callista Van Syckel rowed 13:36.499 to take 10^th out of 48 boats to start the race.
 
Nine Greyhounds alumna – Grace Prince, Grace Dwan, Suzanne Fenix, Jen Judy, Maura Budd, Michelle Wetzel, Susan McInerney, Dani Neidermeyer and coxswain Maggie Rabenberg – finished fourth in their race, going 15:30.986 in the alumni eights race.
 
The men's eight – Shaw, Hoerning, Bohacek, Engelbert, Gabe Wagner, Ethan Shelley, Miles Steinberg, Jack Sullivan and coxswain Mariam Wade – finished 27^th out of 50 in a time of 12:38.808.
 
The Greyhounds men's second varsity four – Steinberg, Shelley, Jake Cordes, Sullivan and coxswain Ali Arvelo – was 27^th in 14:37.270, and women's second varsity four – Eileen Depman, Kennedy Courtney, Oceana Duffy, Ariana Pearson and coxswain Izabella Schafer – was 71^st in 17:56.748.
 
Loyola's women's second varsity eight – Depman, Grace Gola, Mary Cate Burger, Grace Brandenburg, Grace John, Courtney, Ava Oliveira, Cassidy Richard and coxswain Josephine Sedgley – was 40^th in 14:46.163.
