BALTIMORE – Four Loyola University Maryland volleyball players had seven or more kills on Saturday afternoon, and the Greyhounds completed a three-set Patriot League sweep over Holy Cross, 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.
Lauren Link had a match-best 12 kills, while
Caitlin Churney had nine in the win for Loyola.
Riley Hamilton and
Morgan Crawford added eight and seven, respectively, as Loyola put away 45 kills to the Crusaders' 27.
Ally Bauer led three Greyhounds with 14 or more digs, posting 15 while
Bryanne Soares and
Kacy Sekunda each had 14.
Crawford (.357), Link (.345) and Churney (.300) all hit .300 or better in the match, and the Greyhounds' defense held Holy Cross to a .080 clip from the court.
Holy Cross challenged to stretch the match past three sets, turning a 19-17 deficit in the third into a 23-21 lead, but Loyola called a timeout to right itself and scored the last four points. Crawford and Sekunda had kills, the Crusaders committed a hitting error and the Bauer closed the match with an ace.
Loyola had seven aces in the three sets; Bauer, Churney and Soares all had two, and Hamilton served the other.
The Greyhounds will be on the road for their next four matches, starting with a two-match set in the Lehigh Valley. Loyola plays at Lehigh on Friday, November 1, before a contest the next day at Lafayette.
