Baltimore -- The Loyola University Maryland women's soccer team picked up a big win over the visiting American University Eagles, as the Greyhounds secured the fourth seed in the Patriot League Championships. 

Malia Tarazon opened the scoring for the Greyhounds (7-5-5 overall, 3-3-3 Patriot League) in the third minute, as she secured the loose ball at the top of the box, as her left footed shot found the back of the net to take the early lead. 

Loyola continued their aggressiveness in the first half, as they out shot American 9-3 in the first half, as they went into halftime with a 1-0 lead. 

The Greyhounds continued their aggressiveness in the second half, as they out shot American 10-2 in the half, but could not find their next goal until the 69th minute, as Baylee DeSmit's ball off of a free kick found Elizabeth Gallagher, as her left footed shot found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. 

American would cut into the lead just two minutes later, as the Eagles (6-6-3 overall, 2-4-2 Patriot League) drew a foul in the box, as they converted the penalty kick to make it a 2-1 deficit. 

Loyola had several shots following the American goal to add to their lead, but could not find the back of the net. They finally broke through, as a perfectly placed ball by Renee Wanzor played Baylee DeSmit in behind the defense, as DeSmit put it away for her 14th goal of the season. 

Loyola's defense held on over the final 11 minutes, as they secured the 3-1 win. 

DeSmit scored her 14th goal and fourth assist of the season, while Gallagher (second goal) and Tarazon (first goal) scored on the afternoon. Gallagher also added her team-leading sixth assist of the season. 

Mulholland added a pair of saves in the win for Loyola. 

With the win, the Greyhounds secured the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Championships, and they will host Colgate on Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Quarterfinals.
