The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will continue conference play on Friday evening as Loyola will travel to face the Army West Point Black Knights.  
  • This will be the 12th matchup betwen the two programs, as Loyola holds the series edge 5-4-2. Loyola has held the edge as of late, going 5-1-1 over thier last seven meetings, including a 2-0 win last season in Baltimore. 

Quick Hits
  • The Greyhounds started Patriot League play as they entered the season as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League home openers (excluding the 2020 season).  
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24. 
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 76-68-37 (48-27-15) during his tenure. 

Last Time Out
  • Out of the gate, the Greyhounds scored early, as Jake Sweeney scored the opening goal once again, as he nettted the goal in the 16th minute. 
  • Coming out of halftime, Lehigh scored the game-tying goal in the 52nd minute as teams were tied 1-1. 
  • Loyola went on to score a pair of goals over a five minute period, as Jordy Luchies scored on a goal from just inside the half field line. Loyola followed it up with a goal from Caden Stafford, as a ball into the box from Sean McEvoy was headed by Oscar Halls, as Stafford tapped it in. 
  • Tyler Halls capped off a big day, scoring his first career goal in the 85th minute. 

Season at A Glance
  • The Greyhounds have had 10 different players score a goal on the season and 11 different players record an assist on the season. 
  • Caden Stafford and Jake Sweeney are the lone Greyhounds with multiple goals on the season. 
  • Chris Ogor, Pat Kakayira, and Charlie Herley lead the team with three assists each, while Stafford, McEvoy, and Luchies each have two assists on the season. 
  • Dylan Van der Walt has played all but 15 minutes in goal for the Greyhounds.

Scouting Army
  • The Black Knights come into the matchup with a 4-10-1 (1-6) record on the season, and are coming off of a 1-0 loss at Holy Cross on Saturday. 
  • Through 15 games, the Black Knights are led by Gage Lyons who has five goals on the season. 
  • Ronald Zhai is second on the team with four goals. Kai Thomas  leads the team with three assists on the season, while Jubrill Bamgbala has two goals and two assists this season. 
  • In goal, Blair Camargo has started in 11 games this season, posting 33 saves, a .660 save percentage, and a 1.62 goals against average. Keanu Likewise has started four games in goal, tallying 20 saves, a .833 save percentage, and a .89 goals against average. 
  • Army's lone win in Patriot League play came against Navy on 10/11, when they won 2-1. 

Quick Notes 
  • The Greyhounds are 49-15-13 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 18-1-2 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 17-1 when leading at halftime and 16-4-13 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • When holding opponnets to one goal this season, the Greyhounds are 3-1-1. 
  • When scoring first on the season, Loyola is 4-2-1 on the season, while they have gone 3-1 in the month of October. 
  • Dylan Van der Walt recorded a career-best nine saves against St. John's.  

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 13-19-16 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season. 

Offensive Momentum
  • After a slow start to the season offensively, the Greyhounds have began to find success on the offensive end over the past few games.
  • Over their past eight games, the Greyhounds have scored two goals in five of those games. 
  • Caden Stafford has come up big for Loyola, recording four goals and two assists during the stretch, with two goals coming against Navy, and two assists coming against Holy Cross. 
  • Outside of Stafford, it has been a balanced effort, with seven other goal scorers during that period, as well as six different players recording an assist. 
  • In four of the last eight games, the Greyhounds have also out shot their opponents, out shooting their opponent 75-63 over the last six games. 
  • Last season, the Greyhounds ranked third in the Patriot League in shots per game, while this season they rank sixth.
