The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will continue conference play on Saturday afternoon as they travel down to Annapolis for a in-state matchup against Navy. 
  • This will be the 15th meeting between the two programs, as Loyola holds the series edge 6-5-4. Loyola has held the advantage as of late, posting a 5-1-2 record over their last 8 meetings.

Quick Hits
  • The Greyhounds started Patriot League play as they entered the season as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League home openers (excluding the 2020 season).  
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24. 
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 73-66-37 (48-25-15) during his tenure. 

Last Time Out
  • After a scoreless first half in which teams were tied in shots 5-5, Loyola controlled the majority of the second half, as they led in shots 14-4 in the half. 
  • Loyola opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, as Caden Stafford dribbled between defenders before finding Richie Nichols, who's outside the box shot curled into the left corner for the goal. 
  • Holy Cross responded just four minutes later, as Evan Jones scored on a free kick just outside the box to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • Loyola had chances for the go ahead goal, but could not find the back of the net, until in the 90th minute, Caden Stafford had a shot on goal, but Seth Powder ran onto the loose ball rebound and fired home the rebound, as Loyola held on to win 2-1.

Scouting Navy
  • The Midshipmen come into the matchup with a 2-4-4 (1-1-1) record on the season and are coming off of a 2-2 tie against Colgate. 
  • Navy started their Patriot League schedule with a 1-2 loss against Bucknell, beore beating Lafayette 2-1. 
  • Through 10 games, Wyatt Stevens leads the team with four goals, and Tommy Lockhart is second with two goals. 
  • Keane Brown and Jalen Grant are tied for the team lead with two assists each. 
  • Pierce Holbrook has played every minute in goal this season for the Midshipmen, as he as tallied 40 saves, a .769 save percentage, and a 1.20 goals against average on the season. 
  • Navy was picked to finish in sixth place in the Patriot League Preseason Poll, as the currently sit in the middle of the standings, tied with five other teams at 1-1-1 in conference play. 
  • In their last two matchups, teams have tied 1-1 in each game.

  • The Greyhounds are 46-13-13 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 16-0-2 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 15-0 when leading at halftime and 15-4-13 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • The Greyhounds will look to get their attack on track, as they have scored six goals this season.
  • Dylan Van der Walt recorded a career-best seven saves against Hofstra.  

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 12-19-16 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season.
