Last Match Before Championships Start

  • The Loyola University Maryland volleyball team plays its final game of the 2024 regular season on Friday, November 15, when it hosts Bucknell in a 7 p.m. match in Reitz Arena.
  • Prior to the game, the Greyhounds will recognize their senior class and graduate students – Sophie Brenner, Caitlin Churney, Maya Dudockin, Lauren Link and Rose McDermott – who will be playing their final home match in Reitz Arena.

Championships Bid Secured

  • Loyola goes into the final weekend of conference play with its fate for the Patriot League Championships already sealed.
  • The Greyhounds' win at American last Friday night earned Loyola the No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. It will face fourth-seeded Army West Point in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, November 19, at 6 p.m. on the Black Knights' home court.
  • Loyola could wind up in a tie with the Black Knights for fourth, but Army West Point holds the tiebreaker by virtue of head-to-head sets won (5-4). Likewise, the Greyhounds hold the tiebreaker over Lehigh for the fifth seed by the same measure.

Last Time Around

  • Bucknell took a three-set decision against the Greyhounds in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, on October 12, winning 25-17, 25-16, 25-12. The Bison hit .273 or better in all three sets of the match.
  • Lauren Link and Caitlin Churney both had seven kills for the Greyhound, and Leah Hunter and Link posted 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Top Of The League

  • Heading into the final weekend of Patriot League action, outside hitter Lauren Link is the Patriot League leader in total kills (195) in conference matches, and she is second overall with 3.43 kills per set and 319 total kills in all matches.
  • Link has 10 or more kills in 17 of the Greyhounds' last 20 matches. During that stretch, which started on September 7, she has four matches with 20-plus kills and nine with 15-plus.
  • Link has hit .229 over the 20 matches after hitting just .036 in the first four outings. She has hit better than .250 in nine of those 20 contests.

Talking Triple Doubles

  • Through games of November 3, only four NCAA Division I players have posted nine or more triple-doubles this season, and Kacy Sekunda is one of those student-athletes. She has logged 10 or more kills, assists and digs in matches against Queens (N.C.), Seton Hall, Navy, Army West Point (twice), Lafayette, Lehigh, Colgate and American this year.
  • In the match against Queens, Sekunda tied her career-high with 15 kills while dishing out 13 assists and pulling up 12 digs. She matched that number in kills in her triple-double against Seton Hall, and she had 18 assists and 14 digs, as well, against the Pirates. Sekunda then had 10 kills, 16 assists and 14 digs against Navy.
  • Over the course of her 13 career triple-doubles, Sekunda has averaged 3.24 kills, 4.62 assists and 2.90 digs per set. She began her career as setter only in 2021 and 2022 and in 81 career matches, she has averaged 1.71 kills, 6.76 assists and 2.58 digs per set.
  • Last season, she had a total of four triple doubles, tying for fifth-most in NCAA Division I; she has 13 in her career.

One Thousand Of Each

  • Lauren Link reached a new club on November 2 at Lafayette, recording her 1,000th career dig in her 101st career match. Link hit the 1,000-kill mark in her 78th career match.
  • She has averaged 3.58 kills across 374 career sets. In 103 career matches, Link has 1,338 career kills and 1,019 digs.
  • In the aforementioned game against Lafayette, Link also moved into sole possession of sixth-place for career kills at Loyola. She will tie her former teammate Abby Hamilton (2018-21) for fifth with two more kills.
  • This year, Link has led the Greyhounds in kills with 319 through 24 matches, an average of 3.43 per set.
  • Overall, she has 14 career matches with 20 or more kills. Link has 10 or more kills in 81 of 103 matches at Loyola.

Bauer Digs The Chance

  • Ally Bauer has started as the Greyhounds' libero the last seven games and averaged 4.85 digs per set with a total of 104. She set a career-high with 20 digs at Colgate on October 19 and quickly topped that with 29 on October 25 against Army West Point.

Average Going North

  • Caitlin Churney had hit just .213 through the first five matches of the 2024 season, but she has seen her average rise since. The graduate student middle blocker has hit .306 since September 7 and is now seventh in the Patriot League with a .291 hitting percentage.
  • Over the course of the last 19 matches, Churney has made just 42 hitting errors in 348 swings. She is sixth in the Patriot League with a .302 mark during conference matches with 138 kills in 324 attempts.
