Balanced Scoring Attack Leads Women's Basketball to Win At St. Francis

Loretto -- Kimmie Hicks led all scorers with 19 points on Sunday afternoon, and the Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team picked up a 65-52 win over St. Francis University for its first road victory of the season.

Hicks' 19 points were her most in a game this season, and Koi Sims recorded her first double-double this year with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Marta Espinal posted a career-best 10 rebounds on the day, with seven of them coming on the offensive end.

Loyola held St. Francis to just four second-quarter points, as Laura Salmeron knocked down a three pointer late in the quarter to give the Greyhounds (2-2 overall) the double-digit halftime lead.

Loyola continued its momentum in the third quarter, opening the second half on a 9-0 run to extend its lead to 39-20.

Great ball movement for Loyola found Amandine Amorich open for a three-pointer, and she knocked it down to extend the Greyhounds' lead to 44-28 halfway through the third quarter.

The Red Flash (0-5 overall) cut its deficit down to eight points in the fourth quarter, but the Greyhounds held them off to pick up the road win.

Eight Greyhounds had four or more points and Loyola led over the last 28 minutes of the game. Espinal and Hicks recorded three assists each, and eight different players recorded a steal in the win.

Airah Lavy led St. Francis with 16 points on the afternoon.

Loyola returns to Reitz Arena on Saturday afternoon to host UNC Asheville at 2:00 PM for Victor Day.
