Three Wins For Rowing Highlights Day At Head of the Occoquan

FAIRFAX STATION, Va. – Loyola University Maryland men's rowing won three events on Saturday to highlight the Greyhounds' final competition of the fall at the Head of the Occoquan in Northern Virginia.
 
The men's varsity eight, varsity four and JV four boats all won their events while several other crews had excellent finishes at the regatta.
 
"I'm really proud of both teams' performances today," said Head Men's & Women's Rowing Coach Megan Patrick. "It shows that we're on the right track going into winter training."
 
Brendan Shaw, Sam Hoerning, Pete Bohacek, Chris Engelbert, Gabe Wagner, Ethan Shelley, Miles Steinberg, Jack Sullivan and coxswain Joey Sigmund won the men's varsity eight in a time of 16:06.172, more than 28 seconds ahead of second-place Delaware.
 
The Greyhounds later captured the first of two fours races with the grouping of Shaw, Hoerning, Bohacek, Engelbert and coxswain Ali Arvelo finishing first out of nine entries in 17:39.558, 34-plus seconds in front of Washington College, the second-place team.
 
Miles Steinberg, Ethan Shelley, Gabe Wagner and Jake Cordes took first out of four in the men's JV four, finishing in 19:23.407 with coxswain Mariam Wade.
 
The women's varsity eight, JV eight, varsity four and JV four all took seventh or better in deep fields at the regatta.
 
Katherine Convery, Mikayla Smith, Josephine Lightner, Bella Taranto, Beata Turnquist, Grace Brandenburg, Kylie Doyle, Lindsey Bonavita and coxswain Josie Sedgley were eighth out of 16 entries in the varsity eight, finishing in 18:23.449.
 
The JV 8 with Eiley Depman, Grace Gola, Mary Cate Berger, Arianna Grisanti, Grace John, Kennedy Courtney, Ava Oliveira, Ariana Pearson and coxswain Calista Van Syckel finished in 19:59.802 for eighth out of 13.
 
Convery, Bonavita, Doyle, Grace Gola and coxswain Kat An finished the varsity four race in 21:13.247 for seventh out of 15 crews, and Lightner, Smith, Depman, Courtney and coxswain Bella Schafer were eighth of 14 in 21:55.813 in the JV4 race.
 
Both the men's and women's sides had novice entries on Saturday with the women's novice eight – Oceana Duffy, Pearson, Sylvia Gredzinski, Molly Gum, Josie Rider, Trinity McCutchen, Taranto, Grisanti and coxswain Bre Rupp – finshed 10th in its race in 24:01.269.
 
Jack Tartamosa, Ryan Crothers, Connor Romano, Liam Van Es and coxswain Mariam Wade finished 11th in the men's novice four in 24:57.961.
