The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will close out the regular season on Tuesday evening, as they will host the Bucknell Bison at 7:00 PM. 
  • The Bison currently sit atop the Patriot League standings and have secured their spot in the Patriot League Championships. Loyola currently sits tied for fourth place, as they are tied with three other teams with 11. Entering Tuesday, seven teams are in contention for four more postseason spots.
  • This will be the 14th matchup between the two programs, as Bucknell holds the series edge 4-8-1. Loyola has held the edge as of late, going 4-0-1 over their last five games. 

Quick Hits
  • The Greyhounds entered the season as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League home openers (excluding the 2020 season).  
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24. 
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 76-68-38 (48-27-16) during his tenure. 

Last Time Out
  • The Black Knights got on the board early in the game, as they scored the opening goal in the third minute of the game. 
  • The Greyhounds tied it up in the 16th minute, as Sean McEvoy's shot from outside the box curled inside the near post, as he tied the game up a 1-1. 
  • Loyola added their second goal in the 32nd minute, as McEvoy's shot on goal forced a diving save by the Army goalkeeper, but Tyler Tucker was there to tap in the rebound for the 2-1 lead. 
  • The Greyhounds led throughout the second half, before the Black Knights tied it up in the 80th minute, as they headed in a ball off of a free kick, as the teams ended in a 2-2 tie.

Scouting Bucknell
  • The Bison come into the matchup with a 6-6-4 (4-1-3) record on the season, as the come off of a 1-1 tie against Lafayette on Friday night. 
  • The Bison are led by Jack Lucas, Drew Roskos, and Ben Sheffield who each have two goals on the season. 11 different players have scored a goal this season for the Bison.
  • Lucas, David Krumov, and Cade Whitmire are all tied for the team lead with three assists each this season. 
  • Freddie Lapworth has played every minute in goal for the Bison this season, posting 57 saves, a .760 save percentage, and a 1.13 goals against average on the season. He has also recorded six shutouts on the season. 
  • The Bison started the Patriot League season with a 2-1 win over Navy. They followed it up with a tie vs Holy Cross and a 1-0 win over American. Over thier last four League games, the Bison have gone 2-1-1, with their lone loss coming against Boston, 1-0.

  • The Greyhounds are 49-15-14 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 18-1-3 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 17-1-1 when leading at halftime and 16-4-13 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • When holding opponents to one goal this season, the Greyhounds are 3-1-1. 
  • When scoring first on the season, Loyola is 4-2-2 on the season, while they have gone 3-1 in the month of October. 
  • Dylan Van der Walt recorded a career-best nine saves against St. John's.  

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 13-19-16 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season. 

Offensive Momentum
  • After a slow start to the season offensively, the Greyhounds have began to find success on the offensive end over the past few games.
  • Over their past nine games, the Greyhounds have scored two goals in six of those games. 
  • Caden Stafford has come up big for Loyola, recording four goals and two assists during the stretch, with two goals coming against Navy, and two assists coming against Holy Cross. 
  • Outside of Stafford, it has been a balanced effort, with seven other goal scorers during that period, as well as six different players recording an assist. 
  • During their stretch, the Greyhounds have also out shot their opponents 86-80 over the last seven games. 
  • Last season, the Greyhounds ranked third in the Patriot League in shots per game, while this season they rank sixth.
