Lily Mead and
Joe Hayburn won their third individual gold medals of the 2024 FISU America games as the pair and the Loyola University Maryland teammates closed the event on Thursday.
Mead and Hayburn completed their week of the backstroke events, winning the 50-meter version of the event with times of 29.47 and 25.55 seconds, respectively. They each won the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Hayburn picked up another gold with a victory in the mixed 400-meter medley relay. He took the leadoff backstroke leg and was followed by Boston University's Kyle Falkstrom, American's Mimi Watts and Coglate's Lucy Art. The group swam 3:57.44 for the win.
Cameron Shinnick earned a bronze in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle, swimming 17:17.10, and Mead was third for the bronze in the women's 200-meter breaststroke (2:39.35).
Patrick Hayburn was third in the men's 50-meter butterfly with a time of 24.79 seconds to edge teammate
Caleb Kelly's 25.23.
Kelly took silver in 52.82 in the men's 100-meter freestyle ahead of
Patrick Hayburn's fifth-place 53.44.
