Box Score Baltimore – The Loyola University Maryland women's basketball team outscored the Lafayette College Leopards 30-6 in the third quarter, as the Greyhounds ran away with the game in the second half for the 76-51 win to move to 7-5 in Patriot League play.
The Greyhounds (12-11 overall, 7-5 Patriot League) started with a pair of layups in the third quarter from
Lex Therien and
Meliah Van-Otoo.
Loyola continued their hot scoring in the third, as
Kelly Ratigan knocked down her first of three three-pointers in the quarter with 7:47 remaining.
Laura Salmeron added a three-pointer with 6:16 remaining to stretch the Greyhounds run to 13-0 to start the second half. Ratigan knocked down another three on the ensuing possession to take the 46-32 lead.
After a
Lex Therien layup, Ratigan and Salmeron continued their hot shooting, as they both hit a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions to take a 22-point lead.
Salmeron went on to end the third quarter with a traditional three-point play, as Loyola led the Leopards (8-15 overall, 3-9 Patriot League) 61-36 at the end of the third quarter.
The Greyhounds set a new program record in the third quarter, scoring a program-high 30 points, as they shot 12-14 from the floor, including 5-6 from three-point range.
Loyola slowed the pace in the fourth quarter, as they worked their way to a 76-51 win.
Four players finished in double figures, led by Laura Salmeron and
Kimmie Hicks who had 17 points each.
Lex Therien added 14 points and 8 rebounds, while
Kelly Ratigan had 13 points. Salmeron finished with 5 assists, as
Ava Therien and Van-Otoo each had 4 assists. Hicks finished 6-7 from the floor, including 2-2 from three.
Abby Antognoli finished with 12 points on the night to lead the Leopards.
The Greyhounds will be back in action on Sunday, as they will host Lehigh for Women In Sports Day at 2:00 PM
