BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Loyola University Maryland sophomore guard
Deon Perry scored a career-high 33 points on Saturday afternoon, but Lehigh University held off the visiting Greyhounds for a 75-70 Patriot League victory at Stabler Arena.
Alonso Faure added third double-double of the season, and sixth of his career, with 13 points and a season-best 12 rebounds.
Perry became the 33
rd player in NCAA Division I – according to sports-reference.com – to have three games with 30 or more points in 2023-24. His 33 eclipsed his previous high of 30 in games earlier this year at Army West Point and Navy.
Lehigh built the largest lead for either team with 10:39 to play in regulation when Tyler Whitney-Sydney made two free throws to put the Mountain Hawks up eight, 54-46.
A
Tyson Commander layup and back-to-back dunks by Faure brought the Greyhounds to within four just over a minute later.
Perry would put Loyola back in front, 66-65, with a jumper at 3:04, but Cam Gillus hit a right-corner three for the Mountain Hawks 24 ticks of the clock later, and Lehigh led by two.
Dominic Parolin made a pair of free throws with 1:02 on the clock, and Whitney-Sydney converted three of his four attempts from the charity stripe in the final minute to help seal the Lehigh win.
Whitney-Sydney had 16 points, while Parolin added 15.
Golden Dike made 7 of 11 shots for the Greyhounds and finished with 14 points. Perry also had four assists and three steals for Loyola.
The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena on Wednesday, February 21, to host Navy at 7 p.m.
