BALTIMORE – The Loyola University Maryland men's and women's tennis teams earned sweeps over visiting Coppin State University on Saturday as the women posted a 7-0 win and the men were 6-1 winners.
The Greyhounds women swept doubles to earn the point.
Emi Shivkumar and
Jocelyn Assael won by default at No. 3, and then
Olivia Tracey and
Liza Tankimovich were 6-0 winners against Alison Azarak and Emperess Johnson at No. 2.
Christine Richiez and
Lauren Manwiller were also 6-1 winners against Megan Etienne and Kenyange Kaounde at No. 1.
In singles play, Tankimovich beat Etienne, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 1, and Manwiller pitched a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Azarek at No. 2.
Lily Langhus scored another shutout, 6-0, 6-0 at NO. 3 against Kaounde, and Assael won by the same score against Johnson at No. 4.
Addison Kemerer and
Sabrina Grewal both won by default at No. 5 and 6.
The men won the first two doubles matches to finish to earn that point.
Nick Haggar and
Oliver Davey closed out Rick Nieke and Liam Murtaugh, 6-1, at No. 1, and
Matt Cardano and
Cristian Pemueller beat Ulugbek Abdurakhmonov and Tinashe Whata, 6-3, at No. 3. Coppin State won the No. 2 doubles match as Harsh Kheterpal and Vansh Kapoor were 6-4 winners against
Nick Lawliss and
George Cavo.
Coppin State evened the match at 1-1 when Murtaugh beat Davey, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 3, but Loyola won the next five matches. Cardano beat Kapoor, 6-3, 5-4 (retired) at No. 1, and Haggar defeated Kheterpal, 6-2, 6-3. Lawliss was a 6-2, 6-4 winner against Nieke at No. 4, and Ryal Boland beat Abdurakhmonov, 6-0. 6-1 at No. 5.
Dylan Koziol closed the lineup with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Kwaku Agyeman at No. 6.
