A Nine-Goal Second Quarter Leads No. 8 Women's Lacrosse Over Lehigh

Baltimore – The Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team scored 9 of their 11 goals in the second quarter, as the Greyhounds prevailed over Lehigh University 11-5 in a Patriot League matchup.

The game was called at the end of the third quarter due to the weather and unplayable playing conditions.

Sydni Black and Georgia Latch finished the game with three goals each, while Chase Boyle added two goals and an assist.

The Mountain Hawks (5-3 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) had a strong start to the game, as they scored a pair of goals within the first 2:32 of game time, as they led 2-0.

The Greyhounds (9-0 overall, 4-0 Patriot League) however, got out to a slow start on Saturday, as they were held without a goal for the first time this season, as they trailed 2-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Loyola found their stride in the second quarter, as they scored four unanswered goals within 2:32 of game time. Chase Boyle scored the first goal, as she shot high corner for her first of the day.

Lehigh's Gabby Schneider scored on a free-position to cut their deficit down to one goal, but Latch responded just over a minute later, as she picked up the loose ball and scored on the fast break attempt.

Alana Wray and Chase Boyle went on to score another pair of goals within 41-seconds of each other, as the Greyhounds took a 7-3 lead with 6:32 remaining in the second quarter.

Gabby Schneider scored on another free position shot, before Catie Corolla answered with a free-position goal of her own.

Sydni Black capped off a nine-goal second quarter, as she scored on a free-position goal, as the Greyhounds took a 9-4 lead.

Black got the first goal of the third quarter, as she made a move to get past her defender and stayed over the crease, as she fired in the shot for her third goal of the day.

Lehigh's Grace Martel answered two minutes later, off an assist from Schneider to cut their deficit back down to five goals.

Loyola led 11-5 at the end of the third quarter, before the game was called.

Despite the rain and wind, Loyola won the battle on the draw circle, as they won 11 of 18 draw controls, led by Chase Boyle who had four on the day.

Lauren Spence finished the day with five saves on the day in the win.

Loyola will head to Syracuse on Wednesday evening, as they will prepare for their second top-10 matchup of the season. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU at 4:00 PM.
