Syracuse –
Chase Boyle tied a career-high with six goals on Wednesday evening for the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team, but a third quarter Syracuse University run paced the Orange over the Greyhounds.
Boyle was tied for the game-high with six goals on the night.
Sydni Black and
Anna Ruby both had two goals and a assist, while
Georgia Latch had a goal and three assists.
In the first quarter, the Orange (8-3 overall, 5-0 ACC) got on the board first, as Savannah Sweitzer scored her first of the game.
Chase Boyle responded, as she scored her first of the day, as the Greyhounds (9-1 overall, 4-0 Patriot League) took advantage of a player-up opportunity.
Boyle added her second just 48 seconds later, as
Anna Ruby found a open Boyle, who shot high-to-high for the goal.
Both defenses stepped up, as neither team could get on the board over the next nine minutes. Syracuse broke the scoring draught to tie the game at 2-2, before they remained tied at the end of the quarter.
Both offenses came alive in the second quarter, as teams combined for 11 goals in the quarter.
The Oranges' Emma Ward scored early in the second quarter, before Loyola's
Elisa Faklaris tied the game once again, as she ran past the defense for the goal, as the game was tied 3-3 with 12:26 remaining.
Both teams went on to trade free position goals, before Syracuse scored three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead with 6:49.
Anna Ruby stopped the Orange run, as
Georgia Latch found her behind the defense, as she shot low-to-low for the goal.
Loyola added another just 41 seconds later, as
Regan Kielmeyer found a cutting Boyle, who buried the shot, for her third of the first half.
Boyle added yet another goal, as she tied the game at 7, as Latch found Boyle in the middle of the defense, before firing in a jump shot. Syracuse added another goal with under a minute remaining, as they led 8-7 at half.
Kielmeyer tied the game, 8-8, early in the second half, as she converted on a free-position goal.
Over the last 11:53 of game time in the third quarter, the Orange's defense held the Greyhounds scoreless, as they went on a 5-0 run in the quarter. Syracuse maintained the majority of possession, winning 5 of 6 draw controls in the quarter, as they led 13-8 heading into the fourth quarter.
Syracuse's Emma Tyrrell added another goal early in the fourth quarter, to take a six-goal lead.
Loyola attempted to cut into the lead, as Latch and Boyle scored within 40 seconds of each other, to cut the deficit down to four.
Emma Ward added another goal for the Orange, before
Sydni Black scored on a free position shot to cut the deficit back down to four goals, with 7:06 remaining.
The Orange went on to add another goal, as the Greyhounds rally attempt fell short, as the fifth ranked Orange won, 16-13.
The Greyhounds held the edge in draw controls on the day, as they won 19 of 31 draw controls.
Syracuse was led by Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward, who both had six points on the day. The Orange also won the turnover battle, as they forced 18 Loyola turnovers.
Loyola will resume Patriot League play on Saturday, as they will host Colgate at 12:00 PM.
