Philadelphia – Penn University scored eight straight goals over the second and third period on Wednesday evening, as the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team fell on the road, 13-9.
Georgia Latch led the Greyhounds with two goals and one assist on the day.
Sydni Black scored a pair of goals, while
Chase Boyle and
Catie Corolla added a goal each.
Anna Ruby had two assists on the day.
The Quakers (10-3 overall, 3-2 Ivy League) scored the opening goal at the 6:44 mark in the first quarter, as they converted on a free position shot.
Loyola responded with two straight goals 32 seconds apart, as
Sydni Black scored on a behind the back goal, followed by Latch's first goals of the day, assisted by
Anna Ruby.
Penn added another goal, unassisted to close out the first quarter, 2-2.
Catie Corolla scored early in the second quarter for the Greyhounds (13-2 overall, 7-0 Patriot League), as she scored on a player-up opportunity, assisted by
Anna Ruby.
After another Quakers free position goal,
Georgia Latch scored her second of the game, converting on a free position, to take a 4-3 lead.
Following Latch's goal, Penn held the momentum through the end of the third quarter, as Penn scored eight-straight goals through the end of the third quarter, as they had a commanding 11-4 lead.
During their run, they held the Greyhounds to without a goal for 28:10 minutes of game time, Loyola's longest draught in a game this season.
Loyola opened the fourth quarter with a pair of goals in the first five minutes of game time to cut their deficit down to 11-5, but could not trim their deficit any further, as they dropped to Penn, 13-6.
For just the second time this season, the Greyhounds did not win the draw control battle, as they split 11-11.
Chase Boyle had a team-high five draw controls in the game.
Lauren Spence tallied 6 saves on the day, while
Amber Bustard had a save in relief.
Anna Brandt finished with a game-high four goals in the game for Penn. Keeley Block had two goals and three assists.
Loyola will close out the regular season with a pair of Patriot League contests. They will travel to face Holy Cross on Saturday, before they finish the regular season with a home meeting against Bucknell next Thursday.
