Record Three Loyola Golfers Earn PING All-Region Honors

CARLSBAD, Calif. – A school-record three Loyola University Maryland golfers were named to the PING All-Northeast Region Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Saturday morning.

Carlo Pizzano, James Rico and Jackson Roman earned the recognition for the Greyhounds after helping Loyola win its sixth Patriot League title and 23rd conference championship since 1990.

The three Greyhounds honored with all-region honors are the most at Loyola after two had been received the laurels on several occasions.

Pizzano won the Patriot League Individual Championship last month in his final season with the program. The Patriot League Player of the Year had a 72.74 strokes per round scoring average, shooting 0.96 relative to par during the season.

He missed the first few tournaments of the season in September and early October with an injury, but he came back to play in nine tournaments and 27 rounds, shooting par or better in 15. Pizzano, a graduate student at Loyola in 2023-24, also was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for golf, while also earning All-Patriot League First Team recognition for the second time in his career.

Rico ended the season leading the Greyhounds with a 72.69 strokes per round average, earning All-Patriot League First Team honors after finishing in a tie for second at the conference championships. The sophomore shot 1.03 relative to par while playing in all 36 rounds this year for Loyola. He had 12 rounds of par or better and posted two top-10 finishes amongst his 12 tournaments.

Roman brought home three top-10 finishes during the season and was third on the team with a 73.00 strokes per round scoring average. His 16 rounds of par or better led the Greyhounds throughout the year, and he was third with a 1.33 relative to par score.

Loyola was one of 20 teams nationally to have three or more players named to the All-Region teams and one of three in the Northeast Region, joining Rutgers and Princeton.
