Loyola University Maryland volleyball lost a pair of matches on Saturday to close its first weekend of play at the Hampton Inn & Suites Seahawk Classic.

UNCW 3, Loyola 0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-23) –

The Greyhounds led 24-22 in the first set after a kill by
Ava Nepkin and a
Gabi Verdicchio service ace, but the host Seahawks came back sided out with a block and then scored the set's final three points to win the opening frame.

Lauren Link put Loyola up, 14-11, in the second with two-straight aces, but UNCW then reeled off five in a row to go ahead 16-14 on a Sarah Thompson kill to take control of the set.

The Greyhounds pressed ahead, 20-19 with a
Bryanne Soares kill in the third, and
Kacy Sekunda made it 21-20 Loyola, but UNCW scored four of the next five and five of the next six to close the match.
Â
Link had a team-high 12 kills and 12 digs for Loyola, while Sekunda added seven kills.

East Carolina 3, Loyola 1 (25-9, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20) –

The Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a win in the first, but Loyola stayed close throughout the second.

A
Kennedy Stevens kill made it 21-21, and then
Riley Hamilton and Nepkin added kills to give the Greyhounds a two-point lead.

Following an East Carolina timeout, Hamilton and Stevens teamed for a block to give the Greyhounds set point. The Pirates sided out with a kill, but Hamilton scored the winning point, and Loyola evened the match at 1-1.

East Carolina came back to win the final two sets to take the match in four.

Sekunda and Link each had eight kills, while Hamilton, Nepkin and Catilin Churney each turned in seven, and Stevens had six.
Leah Hunter pulled up a career-best 16 digs, while Sekunda had 11 and 16 assists.

Sekunda earned All-Tournament honors after posting 30 kills (2.73 per set), 39 assists (3.55) and 30 digs (2.73) in the three matches. She had her fifth career triple-double in the Greyhounds' first match, a Friday afternoon win over Queens.

Loyola will travel to the Philadelphia area for three matches at the Villanova Classic. The Greyhounds are scheduled to open against the host Wildcats on Friday night at 7 o'clock before playing Princeton and Old Dominion at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
