The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will begin Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon, as they will face off against the American Eagles.
  • This will be the 55th meeting between the two programs, with the Greyhounds holding a 31-16-7 edge. In their previous 54 meetings, the Greyhounds are averaging 2.19 goals per game.

  • The Greyhounds begin Patriot League play as they enter as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League opener (excluding the 2020 season).  
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24. In this weeks poll Clemson (5), Marshall (6), and Hofstra (16) were all ranked in the poll.
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 72-64-36 (48-24-14) during his tenure. 

Last Season at a Glance
  • From August 31 to October 21, the Greyhounds went 13 straight games without a loss, as they went 6-0-7. 
  • The Greyhounds went five straight Patriot League games with a shutout, totaling 567.47 straight minutes from Bucknell's first half goal, to Boston's second half goal.
  • The Greyhounds offense found their stride in the second half of the season, as they scored multiple goals in six of their last eleven games, winning all six games that they scored multiple goals. 
  • The Greyhounds finished the season ranked first in the Patriot League in goals allowed, as they allowed just 15 goals on the season.

  • The Eagles come into the matchup with a 0-2-3 record on the season and are coming off of a 1-1 draw against Vermont last Saturday. 
  • Outside of Vermont, the Eagles have a pair of 0-0 draws, and losses agaisnt Hofstra (4-1) and UNC Wilmington. (1-0).
  • Through five games, the Eagles have just one offensive goal from Cooper Nunn, with the other goal coming on opponent own goal. 
  • Leo Palomo leads the team with a lone assist on the season.   
  • In goal Matthew Tibbetts has played every minute, tallying a .806 save percentage, a 1.20 goals against average, and 25 saves on 69 shots faced. 
  • Coming into the season, the Eagles were picked to finish in third place in the Patriot League, earning 135 votes in the poll. 
  • Ethan Boyle was selected as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year after scoring six goals and a assist in 2023. 
  • American went 6-5-5 (3-3-3) last season before losing to Lafayette in overtime in the Patriot League Quarterfinals.

  • The Greyhounds are 45-12-12 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 15-0-1 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 15-0 when leading at halftime and 14-3-12 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • The Greyhounds will look to get their attack on track, as they have scored just two goals this season. 

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 12-19-16 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season.
