VAU ÓBIDOS, Portugal – Matt Oshrine, a former Loyola University Maryland golfer, won the Open de Portugal on the European Challenge Tour Sunday.
The 2015 Patriot League Champion shot 2-under 69 in the final round at Royal Óbidos Spa & Golf Resort to hold off Italy's Stefano Mazzoli by a shot.
Oshrine, who graduated from Pikesville (Md.) High School before starting at Loyola in the fall of 2013, birdied the course's 11
th and 13
th holes to get to 11-under for the tournament, and he then made par on the final five holes.
Mazzoli and Oshrine were tied going to the 17
th hole where Mazzoli bogeyed to give Oshrine sole possession of the lead.
The win is Oshrine's first on the Challenge Tour, the DP World Tour's version of the Korn Ferry Tour.
Oshrine played at Loyola from 2013-15, winning the 2015 Patriot League title. He was a two-time All-Patriot League First Team and PING All-Northeast Region honoree. He has played in PGA Tour Latinoamerica, PGA Tour Canada, and Korn Ferry Tour events.
He has a top-five Korn Tour finish in the 2021 Utah Championship, and in 2020 he became the first former Loyola player to compete in a PGA Tour event.
