The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds will continue Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon, as they will host Boston University for their Patriot League home opener.
  • This will be the 14th meeting between the two programs, with the series record at a even 5-5-3. Boston has won the last two meetings, including last years matchup, 3-1.

  • The Greyhounds continue Patriot League play as they entered the season as the Preseason favorites. Loyola earned 12 first place votes and a total of 150 points in the poll. The Greyhounds are 2-1-2 in their last five Patriot League home openers (excluding the 2020 season).  
  • In the Preseason United Soccer Coaches Poll, Clemson (#1), Marshall (#8), Hofstra (#17), and Syracuse (#25) were all ranked in the poll. Loyola will be on the road for Clemson, Marshall and Syracuse, while they will host Hofstra at home on September 24. 
  • Steve Nichols enters his 11th season at the helm for the Greyhounds, and has amassed a record of 72-65-36 (48-25-14) during his tenure.

  • The Terriers come into the matchup with a 1-2-4 record on the season, as they are coming off of a 5-1 loss to Brown on Tuesday. 
  • Their lone win this season came over Army in their Patriot League opener, 3-2. 
  • Andrea DiBlasio leads the team with two goals on the season, while six other players have recorded a goal this season. 
  • Daniel Kim leads the team with two assists, while he is tied for the team lead in points with four. 
  • Andrew Wike has started four games in goal, recorded 15 saves, a .652 save percentage, and a 2.29 goals agaisnt average. Ben Alexander has started three games in goal, tallying 13 saves, a .765 save percentage, and a 1.14 goals against average. 
  • In the Patriot League Preseason Poll, Boston, who won the Patriot League in 2023, was picked to finish in second place, behind Loyola, as they received 150 points and 8 first place votes in the poll.

  • The Greyhounds are 45-13-12 in the Patriot League since the beginning of the 2016 season. 
  • In 2022, the Greyhounds set a program-high with 8 ties on the season.
  • The Greyhounds are 15-0-1 since the beginning of the 2021 season when scoring multiple goals. They are also 15-0 when leading at halftime and 14-4-12 when they out shoot opponents since the beginning of 2021. 
  • The Greyhounds will look to get their attack on track, as they have scored just two goals this season. 

Non-Conference Play
  • Over the past five seasons (excluding the 2020 season), the Greyhounds are 12-19-16 in non-conference play. 
  • Loyola has played all of their non-conference foes at least once before, and will face a familiar foe Iona, whom the Greyhounds were in the MAAC with prior to joining the Patriot League. 
  • During the 2023 season, the Greyhounds went 1-1-6 in non-conference play. Of their six ties, two came against ACC foes (North Carolina, Virginia Tech) and one came against then-No. 4 West Virginia, who reached the final four last season.

  • The Greyhounds defense ranked 21st nationally in goals against average, as they allowed .833 goals per game. 
  • Dylan Van der Walt ranked tied for 19th in shutouts, and 25th in goals against average (.833). 
  • The Greyhounds have allowed multiple goals in a game just three times last season.
  • In Patriot League play, the Greyhounds allowed just six goals, with the team tallying six Patriot League shutouts, including a shutout in five of their last seven conference games to end the season.
