HAMILTON, N.Y. — Loyola University Maryland earned a gritty 1-0 road victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon, powered by a second-half goal from junior defender Brandon Meminger and a strong defensive performance from goalkeeper Connor O'Keefe.
After a scoreless first half at Beyer-Small '76 Field, Meminger delivered the breakthrough in the 57th minute, scoring his first goal of the season off a great effort from forward Charlie Herley. Herley hustled for the loose ball, before passing to Meminger who shot near post for the goal to put the Greyhounds (3-9-1, 2-4-0 Patriot League) ahead.
Loyola's defense, anchored by O'Keefe, stood tall under heavy Colgate pressure. O'Keefe made five saves — including two in the final 10 minutes — to secure his second shutout of the season. Despite being outshot 13-9 and facing 10 corner kicks, the Greyhounds held their shape and limited the Raiders' quality chances.
Midfielder Richie Nichols and forward Tyler Flynn each had multiple shots on goal for Loyola, which showed composure and resilience down the stretch to close out the win.
The Greyhounds picked up a crucial road win in Patriot League play, as they return to action on Saturday as they host Army for senior day.
