The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds continue Patriot League play on Saturday afternoon, when they return to Ridley as they will host Bucknell at 1:00 PM.
  • Bucknell holds the edge in the series history, 9-4-4, including winning each of the last three meetings, including twice last season. 
  • Loyola has not won over Bucknell since the 2021 Spring season, where they won 1-0 at home.

  • The Greyhounds 3-1-1 start to the season is their best five-game start to the season since the 2016 season, where they also started 3-1-1. 
  • In the month of September,  Loyola has gone 7-2-5 in Patriot League play since the 2021 season.

Greyhounds at Home

Key Returners
  • The Greyhounds enter the 2025 returning seven of their eleven primary starters from a season ago. 
  • Brigid Mulholland returns in goal for Loyola after playing every minute in goal for the Greyhounds during the 2024 season. She posed a 1.06 GAA, a 0.756 save percentage, while tallying 62 saves on the season. She also had seven shutouts in her first full season in goal. 
  • Zoe Willis returns to anchor the Greyhounds back line, as she was named to the Patriot League Preseason All-League team. Willis recorded two goals and a assist on the season, while leading all field players in minutes played on the season (1,665). 
  • Willis is joined by Payton Hurley and Riley Kennel on the right and left back spots. Hurley and Kennel ranked towards the top in minutes played on the Greyhounds last season. Nele Raap is back with Loyola this season but will miss the season due to injury. 
  • Asma Merzougui and Malia Tarazon return in the attack for the Greyhounds in 2025. Tarazon was tied for third on the team in assists last season (4), while Merzougui was third on the team in points (7) last season. Both players will look to boost the Greyhounds attack and build on a strong 2024 season. 

Scouting Bucknell
  • The Bison come into the matchup with a 3-5-4 (1-0-2) on the season, and are coming off of a 0-0 tie against Lafayette at home.
  • To open Patriot League play, they beat Lehigh, 2-0, before drawing with Holy Cross 1-1.
  •  Henna Andican leads the team with five goals and one assist on the season, while Katie Connell has four goals and two assists this year.
  • Four players are tied for the team lead with two assists on the season. 
  • Reese Dolan has started nine games in goal this season, posting a .829 save percentage, a 0.78 GAA, and 34 saves on the season. 
  • Jess Benattar has started in three games, tallying a .619 save percentage, a 2.67 GAA, and 13 saves. 
  • Through a third of the Patriot League season, Bucknell and Loyola are tied with Lafayette for second place in the Patriot League standings, sitting at 1-0-2 with five points each, and trail Colgate, who is 2-0-1. 
  • In the Preseason Poll, Bucknell was picked to finish in third place, earning 69 points in the poll.

  • The 2025 season will be the 13th season the Greyhounds have been in the Patriot League, going 36-46-27 during that span, reaching the Patriot League Championships in six straight seasons, which includes four trips to the Patriot League Semifinals. 
  • This is Head Coach Joe Mallia's second stint at the helm with the Greyhounds. During his first stint, Mallia went 87-45-9 (54-4-5, MAAC), Winning the MAAC Regular-Season Championship four times, and the MAAC Tournament Championship three times.
  • In his four season's back at the helm, Mallia has gone 43-35-24. 
  • The Greyhounds have gone 67-47-21 at home since the opening of Ridley Athletic Complex. 

Recipe for Success 
  • When scoring first this season, the Greyhounds are 4-0-2 on the season. 
  • When scoring at least one goal this season, Loyola is 4-0-3, including 3-0 when scoring multiple goals.
  • The Greyhounds have won 29 of the last 33 games in which they have scored two goals or more, which dates back to Sept. 6, 2018. Loyola was 5-1 when scoring multiple goals last season.
  • The Greyhounds are 33-2-7 when scoring first and 23-1-2 when leading at halftime since the beginning of the 2022 season.

Greyhounds Defense
  • The Greyhounds defense has been one of the best unit's in the Patriot League this seaosn, as they have allowed the fewest goals (7) in the conference. 
  • The Greyhounds also are ranked 25th in Division I in goals against average, allowing 0.636 goals per game.
  • Goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer is ranked 13th in the country in GAA, allowing .429, while she also ranked 4th in the country in save percentage (0.917). 
  • The back line is led by Zoe Willis, Riley Kennel, Renee Wanzor, and Payton Hurley, who have each started every game and are the top four players on the team in minutes played, led by Willis with 979 minutes in eleven games. 
  • Kennel and Willis have added to the Greyhounds attack as well, as Kennel has two goals and an assist, while Willis has a assist on the season. 
  • In goal, the Greyhounds rotated goalies in non-conference play, and both Brigid Mulholland and Hannah Goetzer played well in goal, as they have combined for a  0.863 save percentage, 44 saves, and a 0.64 GAA this season.
