Women's Basketball Battles on the Road but Falls to Radford

RADFORD, Va. — Loyola Maryland hung tough on the road but couldn't overcome a late Radford surge, falling 59-50 on Monday at the Dedmon Center.

Kimmie Hicks led the Greyhounds (0-4) with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Lex Therien posted her first double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Loyola shot 48.8 percent from the field and outscored Radford 28-20 in the paint, controlling much of the game's pace through interior play and halfcourt execution

Loyola held a 31-29 lead early in the third quarter after a jumper from Hicks, and the Greyhounds stayed within striking distance into the fourth. Kailey Kalet added six points and two assists, while Koi Sims finished with eight rebounds and a strong defensive presence inside.

Following the strong start to the second half, Radford used a 12-3 run over the final seven minutes of the third quarter to pull ahead 36-31 heading into the fourth quarter.

After cutting their deficit down to six points early in the fourth, Radford used a 7-1 run to pull ahead once again, as Loyola could not complete the comeback.

Radford used timely shooting to close the game, led by Angelina Nice's 23 points, including three made threes in the second half.

Despite the result, Loyola continued to show progress defensively, forcing 15 turnovers and holding Radford to 35.8 percent shooting.

The Greyhounds return to action next Sunday when they face Drexel in Philadelphia.
