WEST POINT, N.Y. — Loyola Maryland's postseason run came to a close Sunday afternoon in a 3–1 defeat to Army West Point in the Patriot League quarterfinals at Malek Stadium.
Freshman forward Savannah Manset provided the Greyhounds' lone goal in the 63rd minute, a deep shot that cut Army's lead to 3–1 and gave Loyola a surge of momentum. Manset led the attack with two shots, one on target..
Despite being outshot 19–7, Loyola (5-5-8) stayed competitive behind goalkeeper Hannah Goetzer's six saves and a disciplined back line anchored by Zoe Willis and Renee Wanzor, who each played the full 90 minutes.
Midfielder Asma Merzougui and substitute Ava Blizzard each registered shots on goal, while Malone Christen and Leah Carter added late pressure with attempts that tested Army keeper Karalyn Dail.
Army (12-5-2) struck early through Sabrina Rogers in the 10th minute and added second-half goals from Maddi Woodward and Brigid Duffy. Loyola's defense absorbed waves of pressure and held Army scoreless for the final 33 minutes.
The Greyhounds finish the season with a .500 record and their sixth straight trip to the Patriot League Championships.
