The Matchup
  • The Greyhounds return to action on Tuesday evening, as they will travel to face UMBC in a non-conference matchup. 
  • Loyola holds the edge in the series 17-7, as they have won the last five matchups in the series.

  • Loyola features an experienced squad this year, as Loyola features nine upperclassmen on the roster, combining to play over 500 career games.  
  • The Greyhounds will face all but two Division I teams in the state of Maryland this season, starting with #10 Maryland.
  • Their will be a familiar face leading UMBC, as Candice Hill ('12) is in her second season at the helm of UMBC, as she was a former player and assistant coach for the Greyhounds.    

Non-Conference Outlook
  • Non-conference play opened the season with No. 10 Maryland on November 3, where they fell 80-26.
  • Loyola hosted La Salle for their home opener, but fell 71-59. Loyola began a two-game trip to Virginia where they lost to Virginia Tech 64-48. Loyola then fell to Radord 59-50 on Tuesday.
  • The Greyhounds remained on the road to take on Drexel in Philadelphia, where they fell 66-57, before returning home to face Mount St. Mary's, losing 69-50.
  • Loyola then traveled to Yale on November 23, winning 73-48. They headed into Thanksgiving with a home matchup against Delaware, losing 67-55.
  • The Greyhounds wrap up non-conference play with a trio of local opponents: as they started with a overtime win at Towson on December 4, before traveling to UMBC on December 9, before finishing non-conference play with Morgan State at home on December 21.

Scouting UMBC
  • Towson comes into the matchup with a 4-5 record, as they are coming off of a 66-48 win over Morgan State on Saturday afternoon. 
  • The Retrievers come into the matchup averaging 65.2 points per game on 37 percent shooting, while allowing 63.2 points on 40.4 percent shooting. 
  • Kennedy Austin leads the team with 13.3 points per game this season, while Jade Tillman is second on the team with 11.8 points per game. 
  • Tillman also leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. 
  • Entering Tuesday, UMBC has made over six three pointers just once this season, coming in their win over Virginia. 
  • Entering the season, UMBC was picked to finish in eighth place in the America East Preseason Poll. 

Building Momentum
  • After a tough start to the season, the Greyhounds have won two of their last three games entering their matchup at UMBC. 
  • Loyola has begun to find more consistency on the offensive end, as they have shot 40 percent or better from the field in four of their last six games. 
  • In their win over Towson, the Greyhounds tallied a season-best 17 offensive rebounds, 50 total rebounds, a .857 free throw percentage (18-21), and their first overtime win of the season.
  • Lex Therien has scored at least 20 points in each of the last four games for the Greyhounds while shooting 54.8% from the field (34-62) and 79.3% from the foul line (23-29). 

More On Therien
  • Last season, Lex Therien became the fifth player in program history to record 1,000 career rebounds. She is also one of just five players in program history to reach both 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds.
  • Therien entered this season ranked seventh in career points (1,361), second in field goals made (569), and fifth in total rebounds (1,006), while holding the program record for rebounds per game (10.8). She also owns three of the top five single-season rebounding marks in program history.
  • In the Greyhounds win over Yale, Therien recorded her 50th career double-double, which leads all active Division I players this season. 
  • Therien is currently on a three-game 20-point double-double streak, as she now has a Division I high of 52 career double-doubles.

  • Through nine games this season, the Greyhounds have three games decided by ten points or less, going 1-2 in such games.
