Chase Boyle finished one off her career-high with seven goals on Saturday and was one of three Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse players with hat tricks as the 14
th-ranked Greyhounds opened their Patriot League schedule with a 17-4 victory over visiting American University.
Boyle needed just nine shots to score her seven goals that were one short of her previous best from April 2024 against Princeton University.
She also had 10 draw controls, helping the Greyhounds win 18 of 24.
Mim Suares-Jury logged her first collegiate hat trick, scoring four goals, while
Georgia Latch scored three.
Gabby Stapleton added two goals and had an assist for a career-high three points.
Loyola (1-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) shutout the Eagles (1-2, 0-1) in the first quarter, going up 6-0 by the end.
Latch and Suares-Jury scored the game's first two goals, and the Boyle added her first two. Stapleton scored with 2:33 to go in the quarter, and Suares-Jury added her second of the day with less than a second remaining in the frame.
American got on the board 44 seconds into the second with a Becca Frank goal, but Loyola then kept the Eagles scoreless for more than 30 minutes of game action, going up 16-1 by the end of the third quarter.
Boyle had two more goals in the second quarter, and Latch added two, as well. Suares-Jury and
Avery Ruhnke both scored before the half, and Loyola led 12-1 going into the locker room.
The third quarter scoring opened with a Boyle goal, and she added two more in the final three mintues of the stanza with Suares-Jury adding her fourth and final at 10:32.
American scored three times in the fourth, and Stapleton used an
Olivia Blanding assist to tally her second and final goal.
Lauren Spence made four saves and yielded just one goal in three quarters of play.
Kennedy Buntrock added three saves.
Loyola outshot the Eagles, 35-14, including 15-0 in the first quarter.
The Greyhounds continue their homestand on Tuesday, February 18, when they host the
Battle of Charles Street at 6 p.m. against Johns Hopkins University.
