Baltimore -- The No. 13 ranked Loyola Univeristy Maryland women's lacrosse team held No. 10 Johns Hopkins University to a season-low seven goals on Tuesday evening, as the Greyhounds picked up the big non-conference win over their local rivals, 11-7.
Johns Hopkins scored a early goal in the fourth quarter to cut their deficit down to one goal, as they trailed Loyola 8-7 with 14:11 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Georgia Latch responded just three minutes later, as she scored, unassisted to give Loyola the two goal lead with 11:04 remaining.
Loyola's defense stepped up in the fourth quarter, as they held Johns Hopkins scoreless the remainder of the game, while forcing 8 turnovers during the fourth quarter.
Elisa Faklaris and
Chase Boyle both added goals late in the fourth to secure the Greyhounds win, as they won 11-7.
Chase Boyle had a game high four goals for the Greyhounds (2-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League), to go along with 11 draw controls.
Ava Kane recorded her first hat-trick for Loyola, while
Georgia Latch had five assists on the night to go along with one goal.
The Greyhounds had a strong start to the game in the first quarter, as they scored the first two goals of the game, thanks to
Emma Talago and
Ava Kane, as they jumped out to a early 2-0 lead. The Blue Jays (1-2 overall) responded with a pair of goals of their own, as they tied the game late in the first quarter.
Loyola finished the first quarter strong, as they scored two goals over the final 1:23, thanks to Kane's second of the night and a free-position from
Gabby Stapleton, as they ended the first quarter up 4-2.
In the second quarter, Loyola continued their momentum, as Kane scored her third goal of the first half with 10:17 remaining in the first half.
Chase Boyle added her second of the game just over a minute later, as Boyle got the pass from
Avery Ruhnke, as she fired in the shot to take a 6-2 lead.
Johns Hopkins chipped away at their deficit, as they scored two goals before halftime, but trailed 6-4 going into the half.
The Blue Jays were led by Ava Angello who had three goals and one assist on the night.
Loyola controlled the tempo on the night, as they won the draw control battle, 17-5 on the evening. Loyola also forced Johns Hopkins into five yellow cards and four green cards on the night, as Loyola scored three player-up opportunities on the night.
The Greyhounds will return to the road on Sunday afternoon, as they travel up to New Jersey to take on No. 16 Princeton.
