Gabby Stapleton scored early in the fourth quarter for the Loyola University Maryland women's lacrosse team to tie to the game 12-12, but Princeton University outscored the Greyhounds over the remainder of the fourth quarter, as they held on for the 16-14 win.
Stapleton's goal came just 15 seconds into the fourth quarter, as the Greyhounds (2-2 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) won the opening draw, before
Emma Talago found Stapleton infront of net for the goal.
Princeton responded with two goals within just 29 seconds of each other, as they took the two goal lead, 14-12, with 12:04 remaining.
Loyola won the ensuing possession, as
Georgia Latch drew a foul and scored on the following free-position to draw within one goal.
The Tigers (1-1 overall) scored again with 7:23 left, as Princeton's Jami MacDonald scored, unassisted, to make it 15-13.
Princeton won the next draw control, as
Chase Boyle was issued a yellow card with 6:14 remaining. Loyola killed the player-down possession, as
Lily Osborne picked up a turnover by the Tigers, and Latch would eventually scored a goal, player-down, with 4:18 remaining to draw within one goal again.
The Tigers once again won the following draw, as McKenzie Blake scored with 3:22 left as Princeton retook a two-goal lead.
Princeton won the following draw control and held onto possession to wind down the clock, as they downed the visiting Greyhounds 16-14.
Chase Boyle finished with four goals and 10 draw controls on the afternoon.
Mim Suares-Jury had three goals, while
Georgia Latch had three goals and three assists.
Lauren Spence recorded a season-high 11 saves on the afternoon for Loyola.
Princeton was led by Jami MacDonald and McKenzie Blake who had four goals each, while Haven Dora had three goals and three assists.
The Tigers opened up the second half with a pair of goals, as they jumped out to a 11-7 lead early in the second half.
Loyola responded over the remainder of the third quarter, as they outscored Princeton 3-1 to close out the third quarter and cut their deficit down to one, as they trailed 12-11 entering the fourth quarter.
Loyola was outshot 38-34 on the afternoon, while they held the edge in draw controls, 18-15. Princeton, however, won 6 of 8 draw controls in the fourth quarter, as they kept the ball out of Loyola's hands late in the game.
