BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland women's tennis defeated Norfolk State on Monday afternoon at the McClure Tennis Center, but the Spartans men topped the Greyhounds in dual meet action.
Loyola's women used a tiebreaker in the No. 3 doubles match to earn the opening point, and the Greyhounds then won four of six doubles matches to take the contest, 5-2. Norfolk State swept the men's score, 7-0.
Norfolk State took the No. 1 doubles match, 6-3 with Sofiya Tsitavets and Yuliya Yurkova beating
Lauren Manwiller and
Emma Roeck.
The Greyhounds came back to even doubles at a match apiece when
Jessica Bodewes and
Christine Richiez topped Angelina Maniawska and Irina Iurea, 6-3, at No. 2.
Jocelyn Assael and
Emi Shivkumar than outlasted Ines Sabadie and Caroline Nicholls, 7-6 (3), in the No. 3 match.
Nicholls picked up a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to even the match for Norfolk State, but Richiez converted a 7-5, 6-2 victory against Tsitavets at No. 1.
Mia Matriccino was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at No. 4 singles for Loyola, topping Sabina Iurea, and Roeck downed Irina Iurea, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5. Bodewes was a 6-3, 6-1 victor against Sara Gonzalez on the No. 6 line. Yurkova edged Loyola's
Elena Hartley, 6-2, 4-6, (10-7), at No. 3.
In the men's match, Nortolk State took all three doubles matches with Michale Elia and Boris Lunin beating
Nick Lawliss and
Noah Castillo, 6-4, at No. 1. Jakub Solarski and Frederick McRae were 6-4 winners against Loyola's
Ryan Boland and
Cristian Pemueller at No. 2, and Deniz Okyay and Igor Kubalka topped
Ryan Gill and
Blake Edwards, 6-2, at No. 3.
Solarski was a 7-5, 6-3 winner against Castillo at No. 1 singles, and Vladisav Gorbatenko got past Boland, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3.
Okyay beat Gill, 6-2, 6-1 on the No. 3 line, and McRae defeated Edwards, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4. Kubalka beat Pemueller, 6-1, 7-5 at No. 5, and Luka Cvjetkovic downed
Dylan Koziol, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.
